LP Conversion of Jenn-Aire Cooktop

Greg -- Thursday, 2 January 2003, at 11:42 a.m.

I am converting a Jenn-Aire cooktop from natural gas to LP gas. I completed all the steps, regulator, new orifices, adjust vents - and when I open the LP gas - no gas flows to the burners. I am using a brand new 5 gallon LP bottle, with the new OPD valve.

Any ideas?

Is there a cut off valve in the cooktop that needs to be turned on? I can't think of anything else that would totally stop gas from flowing to the burners (assuming gas is getting to the appliance).

I am told that the problem is I didn't have a regulator coming out of the LP gas tank to bring the pressure down to 11 WC - I thought the appliance regulator handled this, but apparently not!

If I'm not mistaken, when "converted" (see the link below) the appliance's regulator is effectively totally bypassed (ie. no longer 'regulating' the flow). Yes you will definitely require a regulator on the propane supply just as with natural gas there's one outside your house in addition to one on each appliance.

Glad to hear you got it figured. Thanks for the follow up.
